A new update is headed to Galaxy Note II 4G Android smartphones this week, and as usual, it is available both over the air through June 17 as well as in a manual download using the Samsung Kies software. The update will take the Galaxy Note II phablet up to the Jelly Bean Android version 4.1.2 software T889UVBMD1. Included in the update are several security enhancements and a new Smart Switch feature which allows you to transfer content and data from other mobile handsets to your Galaxy Note II.

Explaining Smart Switch as much faster when compared to the “time-consuming” content transfer tools offered by other operating systems and smartphones, Samsung calls this new feature a “do-it-yourself migration tool.” Samsung explained during an announcement of the upgrade that the interface is easy to use and works with all other smartphone platforms. You can transfer video clips, music files, memos, contact information, calendar information, messages and other documents.
The new Smart Switch application and improved software security are just two more attractive features now present on the big-screen phablet. The True HD Galaxy Note II smartphone boasts a popular Multi-Window feature, which allows you to split the large 5.55 inch Super AMOLED display into two smaller and equally sized windows. You can operate these displays separately or integrate the two, enabling virtually limitless multitasking and productivity enhancing operations.
As the first mobile handset from Samsung to launch the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, the Galaxy Note II smartphone is slim, delivering a 0.37 inch (9.3 mm) profile. A powerful quad core processor allows for simultaneous voice and data access, and the large high-resolution display has been aligned in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio for True HD video viewing. That screen offers a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels, and more than 16 million colors are used to render visuals.
A single charge of the extended life battery delivers 15.0 hours of talk time, and the phone is powered by an Exynos quad core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. An ARM Mali 400 MP4 quad core graphics processor is also on board, and as is 16 GB of built-in data storage space and a microSD slot for storage expansion. A generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory is also present, as is a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder with 1,080P HD resolution video recording capability. The Galaxy Note II also provides a front facing chat cam, a built-in Stereo FM radio with RDS and popular applications Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter ready for use out-of-the-box.
