When Google released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year, smartphone manufacturers revisited their schedules to accommodate the research and development of the latest version of the Android mobile operating system for the handsets in their respective lineups. Back then, Samsung was one of the manufacturers who immediately released the details of its ICS plans. At that time, the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Note will be the first devices in its stable to get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich with the update expected to hit the airwaves by Q1.
The manufacturer managed to keep its promise of a Q1 ICS rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S II when the then flagship device of the company finally got its taste of Ice Cream sandwich back in February. It was a different story for the Samsung Galaxy Note though because the ICS update for the phablet got pushed back to Q2. It came with a Premium Suite of applications designed for the S-Pen stylus of the phablet to make it worth the wait.
In the same vein, some of the carrier-branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II are still waiting for that tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE version released by Rogers is luckier than most because the handset finally got the update that will crank up it OS version to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Sad to say, the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE is not being rolled out via the usual OTA manner so don’t be surprised if there are no notifications coming up on the handset to let you know of the update’s availability. Instead, to be able to take advantage of the Android 4.0 refresh, you need to hook up your Samsung Galaxy S II LTE to your PC and fire up the Samsung Kies software to get the update process going. If you are not familiar with how to update your device using the Samsung Kies software, all you need to do is to head on over to the official support site of the manufacturer to get the instructions on how to do so.
Similar to the original version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, the version of the handset released by Rogers also packs quite an impressive specs sheet under the hood. Its circuitry revolves around a Qualcomm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset which brings into play a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The internal storage of the handset comes up to 16GB but it also comes with a microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. The display o the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE on the other hand is a 4.5-inch SuperAMOLED Plus panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its camera department outfits the smartphone with a rear-facing 8MP shooter and a front-facing 2MP snapper.

I have this phone and tried to connect it to Kies to get the update. Kies does connect to my device, but when i open up the menu and select “Firmware upgrade and initialization”, a pop-up appears and says, “”SGH-I727′ does not support initializing.”
Please help!

Yes I tried this as well through my Mac and got the following message:
“Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies”
Call Rogers when you have a spare half hour to swing from CSR to CSR until you find somebody that has the answer you need and make sure to give them your phone number to call you back when (not if) they drop your call. Good luck!
