When you take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G from AT&T, you’d realize that despite the fact that this handset is almost a year old already, it still packs very impressive components under the hood. Not only that, the handset also has a couple of features in its cap that it can really be proud of. First off, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G is the first true 4G handset to be added to the lineup of AT&T. Looking back, AT&T used to market some of its smartphones in the past as 4G devices but in reality, these are just mere 3G and HSPA+ smartphones. Things changed though when the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G entered the AT&T scene as first LTE-capable handset of the carrier.
Released alongside the HTC Vivid 4G back in 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G became an instant hit to the subscribers of the wireless provider because it served as their mobile device to take advantage of the expanding LTE network of AT&T. And being the true 4G device that it is, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G was no match to the hopelessly underpowered 3G and HSPA+ handsets masquerading as 4G devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S II has already gotten a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich a couple of months back and this refresh has made the handset even more capable that it already is. Although Samsung has already confirmed that the original version of the Samsung Galaxy S II will also get updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, there has been no solid word as of yet if the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G will also get the same treatment.
But if you happen to be a power user who tinkers with your device as a hobby, you might be interested to know that a CyanogenMod 10 Nightly is now available for your Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G. This custom ROM comes in handy especially if you are already bored with the stock Android experience overlaid with TouchWIZ that came on your handset. Not only that, CM 10 Nightly provides tons of customization and personalization options on your device that otherwise would have been unavailable with Samsung’s take on ICS.
If you happen to be brave and adventurous and have all the technical know-how needed in pulling this off, you might want to try flashing the CyanogenMod 10 Nightly onto your Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G to get a whole different Android experience on your handset. However, please be reminded that hacking your device is the surest way to losing your warranty but I bet you know that already. If you don’t care much for trivial things like warranties, go ahead and dive in – experience CM 10 Nightly on your handset. Otherwise, just stay on the safe side and be content with the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system running in the guts of your Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G.
