AT&T released the Samsung Galaxy S II on their 4G network, and that phone just recently got major improvements and upgrades to make it capable of running on AT&T’s new LTE 4G network. The new Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is exclusive to the AT&T 4g LTE wireless platform, and comes out-of-the-box with Android’s 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system. Released on November 6, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket arrives in the familiar candy bar form factor. Measuring 5.11 x 2.71 x 0.37 inches (129.8 x 68.8 x 9.49 mm) and weighing 4.60 ounces (130 g), that handset is average in size and weight when compared to other 4G smartphones. Samsung uses their own Super AMOLED Plus display technology to deliver 480 x 800 pixel resolution on the 4.50 inch screen that is the second largest in the 4G smartphone marketplace. Visuals are rendered in 16 million colors on the capacitive multitouch screen, and a light sensor is built-in for auto display adjustment. A proximity sensor is also on board for auto shut off, and the screen is topped by a protective layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.
The battery present is an 1850 mAh cell, and provides 7.0 hours of talk time and 11 days standby on a single charge. Samsung also provides their own processor, a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion chip that joins an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit and 1.0 GB of RAM memory in the hardware package. 16 GB of storage are built-in, and that can be improved to 32 GB via the microSD slot. A microUSB port is available for charging the device.

As with all 4G handsets these days, cameras are present front and rear, with the front facing chat cam also providing video calls. That front snapper records video in 720P HD, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash and video light, and records video in 1080P HD. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Picasa applications have been preinstalled, and the web browser on board supports both HTML and Flash.
