Smartphone wireless networks will deliver a much faster experience if the handset you are using to travel on them has a quicker processor. And while the AT&T 4G LTE network is certainly speedy, the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket has a 25% faster central processing unit than the previous generation Galaxy S II devices means a lot. It’s like taking a 1982 Honda Civic out on the autobahn and comparing the performance to that of a Ferrari. The Ferrari has a bigger engine, so it can attain faster speeds, even though both cars are driving on the same highway.

And that’s what makes the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G Android smartphone one of the fastest 4G offerings in the mobile marketplace. Just having hit its seven month birthday after its November debut last year, a virtual eternity for a current smartphone to operate at the high end of the performance spectrum, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket is still one of the best performing and most full-featured handsets in the 4G mobile phone arena. The handset is average in shape and size when compared to all other 4G smartphones, but delivers an impressive software and hardware package.

The 4.50 inch screen is easily one of the largest found on any smartphone, and that Super AMOLED Plus display is rendered in more than 16 million different colors and 480 x 800 pixels. Talk time from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board runs 7.00 hours, and standby time is roughly 10.5 days. A full 16 GB of built-in storage is present with a microSD slot available for storage expansion, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory is also on board. The speedy dual core processor mentioned earlier is a Scorpion chip that has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, and it joins an Adreno 220 graphics specific chip as part of the Epic 4G Touch Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon microchip package.

The same high resolution 8.0 megapixel camcorder, 2.0 megapixel chat cam camera combo found on previous Galaxy S II devices is present. That rear camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash and video light, and provides autofocus, geo-tagging, panorama mode and smile detection features. The camcorder provides video capture at a high resolution 1,080P HD, and the front facing chat cam can record video at 720P HD. Popular online destinations Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa come pre-installed out-of-the-box, and the Galaxy S II Skyrocket is available for $125 on contract at select retailers.
