The Internet is a wonderful invention, putting people from around the world in touch with the latest information, but sometimes the veracity of the knowledge being passed on is questionable to say the least. With the widespread global success of the Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone, delivering the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, it was only a matter of time before the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS rumors began to develop for that handset. And while the Android Blogosphere certainly has more than its fair share of rumors concerning Android operating systems, at least one reputable source recently stated that the Galaxy S III smartphone will probably begin receiving the Jelly Bean 4.1 update as soon as October.
The Samsung Galaxy S III for Sprint is on sale now starting at 99.99.
The handset has sold more than 20 million units in only its first 100 days of availability, and respected online tech website ZDNet recently announced that their sister site, CNET UK, received a “categorical statement from Samsung” announcing the October delivery of the over the air upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS. The new Jelly Bean software will serve as the coming out party for the new Google Now personal assistant feature. Mimicking the Apple iPhone Siri virtual personal assistant, Google claims that their version is more intuitive than the Apple creation, and works hand-in-hand with the new Google semantic and relative search efforts integrated into mobile devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S III 4G LTE is delivered by multiple wireless carriers in the United States, arriving on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system on July 12 of this year. Having multiple carriers in the US offer the same device has resulted in several price wars, creating bargains for Android smartphone shoppers in that country. That handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box, and also boasts one of the largest screens on any smartphone. That display also delivers an extremely high pixel density and resolution, and the GS III is capable of simultaneously recording high definition video and images.
The display runs 4.80 inches in size, and that Super AMOLED screen is protected by a second generation of Gorilla Glass. Pixel density runs 316 pixels per inch, creating an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The handset is skinny and light, measuring 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm), and weighing in at 4.70 ounces (133 g). The handset is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU and a separate Adreno 225 graphics processor, and the Galaxy S III is one of the first smartphones to deliver a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and provides the simultaneous HD video and image capture mentioned above.
