The worldwide tech toy tour moves to the German capital of Berlin this week, as IFA 2012 opens on August 31 as the largest consumer electronics trade show in the world according to attendance. IFA stands for Internationale Funkausstellung, and while that name proves very difficult to pronounce, it is certainly not difficult to understand why smartphone manufacturers like Samsung tweak their devices before displaying at this all important annual event. Just in time for IFA, Samsung has announced they will be releasing a multitude of optional handset colors for their global smash hit Galaxy S III Android smartphone. Aside from the standard Pebble Blue and Marble White bodies, Garnet Red will join Sapphire Black, Titanium Gray and Amber Brown as the new chassis color choices.
The Samsung Galaxy S III is on sale now starting at 99.99.
And to make things as confusing as possible for their customers, different colors will be offered by different wireless carriers. What will not change from device to device or from one wireless carrier to another is the high-end, high-performance feature and tech package the handset delivers. Android’s 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system is delivered out-of-the-box, one of the largest high resolution screens found on any handset is present and Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities are also on board.
The Samsung TouchWiz UX UI Android overlay accepts standard multitouch, capacitive gestures for device navigation, and the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G LTE handset is extremely thin and light in comparison to other 4G devices at 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches (136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm) and 4.73 ounces (134 g). Delivering an extremely high pixel density at 306 pixels per inch, the 4.80 inch Super AMOLED display boasts an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. That display is protected against chipping and scratching by a layer of second generation Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
Up to 8.0 hours of talk time and 8.3 days of standby are offered from a single charge of the 2,100 mA battery on board. The hardware package includes a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor and Adreno 225 graphics processor, 16 GB of built-in storage and a microSD slot which accepts cards up to 64 GB in size. The Samsung Galaxy S III is one of the first smartphones to deliver a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory.
Simultaneous high definition video and image capture is provided by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and that rear snapper contains one of the most extensive customization and special effects packages of any smartphone camera. Joining it in the camera combo is a front facing VGA quality chat cam. The built-in music player on the Samsung Galaxy S III Android smartphone comes equipped with custom and preset equalizers, and a YouTube video player has been pre-installed. Facebook, Picasa and Twitter applications are also on board.
