As reported on SamMobile and GSMArena, the Galaxy S III Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system update has leaked … again. This is the second time that an Android 4.2 OS upgrade has been released to the web for the Galaxy S III, and this is once again the unofficial prerelease. The ROM is available for download, so if you are an impatient Samsung Galaxy S III owner and cannot wait for the official release, you now have an option. As always, we recommend waiting on the official Samsung sanctioned update.
The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.
Confirmed updates include new screen modes which allow you to manipulate the color and saturation of the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone. There is also a new lock screen, and a Daydream application has appeared. This new driving mode offers “actionable notifications”, and the S Voice Samsung app is now integrated into more applications, supporting more voice commands. Sammobile was able to get the unofficial prerelease version, which they say is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Just remember that if you flash an operating system version which has not been sanctioned by Samsung as the official release, you run the risk of voiding your warranty and possibly bricking your handset. The good news is that these unofficial “leaks” usually run a month to two in advance of the official version. Smartphone manufacturers intentionally leak these “beta versions” of operating system updates so that developers and other techies can report any bugs and minor fixes which need to be polished before the official release.
Since this is the second time the Jelly Bean 4.2 update has been leaked to the Galaxy S III, as mentioned above, we are lead to believe that the official 4.2.2 update has to be right around the corner. Why the ongoing hubbub over Jelly Bean 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S III? The handset has sold more than 50 million units globally, and though the Galaxy S4 has entered the mobile marketplace, the S3 continues to be a popular device. Also, the phone can be had for $0.01 on contract at select online retailers, making it a very attractive purchase.
The new Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update delivers many of the features found on the Galaxy S4, fulfilling a promise Samsung has made to offer any new features they release on new handsets to older editions. The phone just recently passed its one year anniversary in the United States, is made in a slim and light form factor, and delivers a large 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display. Resolution runs 720 by 1,280 pixels, and the phone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 plus processor. 2.0 gigs of RAM memory are on board as is a microSD slot, and the phone is offered both 16 GB and 32 GB versions.
