The Samsung Galaxy S III is still going strong despite the fact that anticipation is building heavily before the March 14 announcement of the upcoming Galaxy S IV which will take place in New York City. The handset was recently spotted at select online retailers with a sub $100 price tag on contract, and was also praised at the industry’s largest global mobile annual event for its popularity, sales success and innovation over the past year.
At the recent Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain the Samsung Galaxy S III was awarded the prestigious MWC Best Smartphone title just this past week. The handset has been so popular globally that it has helped Samsung record two straight quarters with record shattering sales and profits. It also allowed Samsung to take down the mobile Device Manufacturer of the Year award for the second straight year at MWC.
And for the 10th straight month, the Samsung Galaxy S III has been recognized as the top smartphone in the UK. Holding onto its title as the UK’s best-selling smartphone for the 10th month in a row, the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone has not seen sales slip in advance of the upcoming S IV announcement. The new figures are compiled by uSwitch, and use an algorithm consisting of handset sales, pre-orders and live Internet searches.
The Samsung Galaxy S III retained its title as “iPhone killer”, as the Apple iPhone 5 currently ranks third on the respected UK best-selling smartphone list. The Samsung Galaxy S III is wafer thin with a 0.34 inch (8.6 mm) profile, and delivers a large 4.80 inch high-resolution touch screen. Display resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at a high rate of 306 pixels located over each inch of display space. A dual core 1.5 GHz central processor is on board, as is a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory.
The handset has been popular thanks to data share applications like Android Beam, supported by the on board NFC technology. The handset is offered in both 16 GB and 32 GB versions, with both of those models offering a microSD slot for storage expansion. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder allows you to simultaneously record high definition video and snapshots, and popular online destinations Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been pre-installed and are ready for access out-of-the-box. The GS III also delivers video out and mobile Wi-Fi hot spot options.
