It is almost an etched-in-stone certainty that both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One smartphones will be two of the best selling Android handsets of 2013. Those two mobile monsters seem to be prepared to deliver feature packages and performances which will frighten the competition, ensuring sales success and smartphone shopper popularity this year. But as with some previous handsets, will the hype surrounding the upcoming launches of these two potentially powerful phones outpace their ability?
On the surface you would think that the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a better chance at becoming the best-selling Android smartphone of 2013. The fourth in a massively successful Galaxy S smartphone lineup, the GS4 will be riding Samsung’s hot hand and Galaxy S II and S III loyalty. But even though HTC posted some miserable financials recently, that does not matter to smartphone shoppers. They just want a powerful phone with great features and sex appeal, and the HTC One certainly appears to be ready to provide both.
If you are currently waiting for your tax return and are looking for one of the most capable smartphones in recent years, you may have been mentally test-driving both the HTC One and Galaxy S4 smartphones. Both definitely have the capability of delivering advanced features and cutting-edge technology, powerful software and more than competent components. With the HTC One available as early as April 19 in the United States, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 arriving roughly a week later, time will not be a deciding factor.
When looking at the display, the Galaxy S4 has a size edge, the HTC One offers a roughly 5% higher pixel density, and resolution is exactly the same. The Galaxy S4 will deliver a 4.99 inch Super AMOLED display with 441 pixels per inch (ppi), with the HTC One bests that handset by delivering a pixel density of 468 ppi. The HTC One offers a 4.7 inch LCD screen that is insignificantly smaller, and both handsets offer a screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels.
The Galaxy S4 will be available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB configurations, starting at around $199 on contract for the 16 GB version. The HTC One gives you a choice of 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory, delivering double the storage for the same price of the 16 GB S4. The Galaxy S4 runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, with the One powered by Jelly Bean 4.1.2. And while the Galaxy S4 offers a 13 megapixel sensor on their camcorder, HTC is sticking with a technologically enriched 4 megapixel camera. Android shoppers, will the HTC be the One for you, or is the Galaxy S4 headed to your pocket or purse?
