Recently mobile users all over the country were hoping to be reading about a new update for their Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone that would finally bring it up to the Android 4.3 that a lot of other handsets are getting familiar with. The update was flowing across the country and early last week the rollout was still moving along as planned. US Cellular just announced that the Samsung Galaxy S4 on its network would be getting the update and it will join AT&T and T-Mobile in the rollout process.
Sprint and Verizon Wireless are expected to announce the rollout soon on their networks, but at this time those smartphone users are still waiting. The US Cellular update was noticed via a leaked document that showed up online and that dates listed for the update have been proven correct. US Cellular did not confirm a date for the update, which is coming to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2, but the document clearly stated that it would be starting on the 8th of November. Samsung went ahead and announced the update and the software downloading began.
The new software is going to update the Android operating system, as well as bring along the Samsung KNOX software for smartphone security. Support for the Galaxy Gear will also be included and other applications are expected to be improved at the same time. The update is available over the air, so it will just be a matter of getting your battery charged up, hooked up to your Wi-Fi network and let the update begin. You can check manually if your phone is ready for the update by going through your settings on the device.
The US Cellular rollout leaves just two major mobile carriers in line for getting the Samsung handsets updated. Sprint and Verizon Wireless are likely to be announcing the update sooner than later and that would bring all of the more recent Samsung devices up to date and with added support for the popular Samsung Galaxy Gear watch. Other applications on the devices that are going to be getting updated include City ID, Mobile TV, MobiTiles, Slacker Radio, TRD, WiFi Now, YND, Mobile Security and the Amazon Shopping application. AT&T and T-Mobile will start their rollouts on the 13th and the 18th, respectively.
