gs4Probably the most anticipated handset of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android smartphone recently arrived at the FCC in two the United States versions. The Metro PCS (SCH-R970) and Sprint (SPH-L720) S4 models have made their way to the FCC for approval, meaning that the long-awaited arrival date for those carriers in the United States is not far off. Sprint’s version of the Galaxy S4 offers HSPA 3G for world wide roaming, and the MetroPCS model drops HSPA. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon are next up at the FCC.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has got to be a dynamite phone, as the entire Galaxy S line for Samsung and the wireless carriers which provid it has been extremely successful. Early specifications and tech numbers certainly look impressive, as the handset is going to deliver an extremely high pixel density and one of the largest displays in the entire mobile marketplace for a smartphone. The Floating Touch hover feature and eye recognition scrolling are two cutting-edge abilities the smartphone is said to deliver.

The Floating Touch application works much like the hover feature on the Galaxy Note II. You can hold your finger just above the display to pull up a list of options which improve your productivity and multitasking abilities. And the eye recognition technology actually uses the front facing camera on the Galaxy S4 to watch your eyeballs. When you have reached the bottom of your display and there is more content available, the screen will automatically scroll for you. Samsung has intimated more options with this new technology.

Skinny at 0.31 inches (7.9 mm), the handset is also rumored to be deceptively light, weighing only 4.59 ounces (130 g). But that slim and light body accompany a large 5.0 inch Super AMOLED screen, with a startlingly high pixel density running 441 pixels per inch. That creates an overall display resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and more than 16 million individual colors are present on that screen. The battery is slated to be a 2,600 mA model, with no early word on talk or standby time.

The US version of the Galaxy S4 is slated to offer a 13.0 megapixel camcorder, ramped up from 8.0 megapixels on the Galaxy S III. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon are all in line to offer the handset, and it looks like the United States wireless carriers will have a 1.6 GHz quad core ARM Cortex A15 central processor powering their handsets. A PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU handles all graphics processing, with 2.0 GB of RAM system memory pre-installed. April 26 has been listed as a possible launch date, and no retail price tag has been confirmed.
