gs4vsiphone5The only way to test one smartphone against another is to run them through the exact same set of operations and circumstances. This is how a recent industry recognized third-party test of some of the most popular and bestselling smartphones was run. Everyone knows that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is run by a powerful quad core processor, and the same can be said for the HTC One 4G handset. Those bestselling phones were pitted against the iPhone 5 and BlackBerry Z10, as well as the Sony Xperia Z, Google Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note II big screen phablet.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Black Mist is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $149.99.

All of those phones except the Apple and the BlackBerry products run quad core processors. They also all have larger touchscreen displays and higher resolution. But even if your handset has a large, high-resolution display, your phone is pretty worthless if it takes forever to process your requests. No one likes waiting for a web page to load, a game or application to download, or to have a video stopping and starting because the phone’s hardware cannot keep up. The BlackBerry Z10 and iPhone 5 are the only two of those popular phones which are powered by a dual core processor, so it should not come as any surprise that that iPhone was the slowest, and the Z10 the second slowest, of the seven devices tested.

The Geekbench 2 tech evaluation was run on these seven particular phones because they are the bestselling in the UK. The tests that the popular phones were run through measured memory performance and processor capabilities across typical smartphone platforms. The higher the score, the better it will work when multitasking, playing demanding high definition games, photo editing, using applications and carrying on two operations at one time. The powerful Samsung Galaxy S4 posted a combined score of 3,188, handily besting the HTC One which ended up in second place with a score of 2,798.

UK consumer watchdog “Which?” ran the test, and stated that any combined score of above 1,000 is adequate. And while all seven of phones tested at above 1,000, it should be expected that the most popular and best-selling smartphones deliver a more than adequate performance when handling normal consumer activities and operations. Both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One smartphones were heads and shoulders above the rest of the field, which included 3rd place Sony Xperia Z (2,173 point combined score), 4th place Google Nexus 4 (2,134), 5th place Galaxy Note II (1,950), 6th place BlackBerry Z10 (1,698) and last place iPhone 5 (1,664).

The scores will no doubt disappoint the millions of iPhone fans who may not have realized they pay more for their handset than the competition prices their offerings, while receiving a substandard performer. On speed alone, it is clear the Samsung Galaxy S4 stands at the top of the mobile handset marketplace, and with the recently discounted price tags offered by many online retailers for the Galaxy S4 smartphone heading into summer, these recent test results only make the popular and bestselling handset even more attractive.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Black Mist can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $149.99.
