And now, days before August ends, Samsung managed to keep its word because the much awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi in US shores is now finally rolling out.
The ICS update for the tablet is being rolled out not only via OTA but through Kies as well so users of the tablet have two options in giving their Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. If it is via the Kies way, all you need to do is hook up the tablet to your computer and fire up the Kies software to get the process started. Of course, you need to have the latest version of Kies installed on your computer to ensure that the update process doesn’t get messed up.
As for those wanting to get the update via OTA, all you need to do is be on the lookout for that little notification that will let you know once the ICS update is already available on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi. If you are already getting impatient and no notification is coming up, you can opt to manually check for the update by going to Settings > About device > Software update > Update and hope that the search returns something tangible.
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwch update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi weighs in at approximately 313.96 MB so if you are going the OTA way, you better do it via Wi-Fi. The update will crank up the software version of the tablet to Android 4.0.4 and it comes with the usual features associated with ICS such as Face Unlock. It also brings a newer version of TouchWIZ UI, the manufacturer’s custom user interface, to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi.
With this update to ICS, the very capable Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi has just become more capable that it already is. It was released in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB in terms of storage capacity but there is no option to have this further expanded. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi sports an 8.9-inch PLS TFT panel with a 800 x 1280 resolution while its camera department includes a 3.15MP rear shooter and a 2MP font video call camera.
