For Android smartphone shoppers, the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system is the preferred OS. Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 was a huge step up from previous Android operating systems, and the Jelly Bean was a step up further still. The 4.1.1 OS upgrade delivers a much smoother and more efficient user interface, upgraded Google Now virtual personal assistant and contextual search engine, better camera operation and other feature improvements.
The Samsung Galaxy Victory is a 4G smartphone running on the new 4G LTE system of Sprint in the United States, and it is also backwards compatible to 3G. The handset launched back in September of 2012 with the Android 4.0 OS, and rumors have been circulating that Jelly Bean was on its way. For smartphone shoppers looking for a budget handset with Jelly Bean that also offers 4G speed, the Samsung Galaxy Victory fits that description, as it currently retails for around $0.01 on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online.
The 4.1.1 over the air update has recently appeared online, and it is downloadable currently. This is one large operating system update as software upgrades go, weighing in at a hefty 370MB. This is not the official Sprint or Samsung sanctioned upgrade, and we feel duty bound to tell you that downloading this Jelly Bean 4.1 upgrade could brick your handset. Having said that, the good news is that these unofficial rollouts generally appear online as beta versions only a short period of time before an official OS update is released.
The handset arrived on the new Sprint network last year just after that wireless carrier launched their first ever 4G LTE system, and Sprint recently added an additional 28 major markets in the US which offer 4G LTE access. David Owens is vice president of Product Development for Sprint, and he said that the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G ensures that price is not a problem for customers upgrading from a feature phone to a smartphone.
At the nearly free retail price, the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G delivers “Sprint 4G LTE to the mass-market with the high-end features and capabilities of a premium Android smartphone” Owens said in a press release back when the handset was launched. The Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and offers a 4.0 inch WVGA touchscreen display. The handset delivers 4 GB of built-in storage, 1 GB of RAM memory and a microSD slot for storage expansion. The camera combo includes a rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam.
