With all the announcements recently by the big three cell phone service providers and many different smartphone manufacturers that the Android Gingerbread operating system upgrade was coming over the air, you can understand why Samsung Infuse 4G owners recently became stoked when they heard about a software upgrade coming to their handset. Well, there is some good news, and some bad news, and some good news regarding software updates for the Samsung Infuse 4G.
The good news is that a software update did occur a few days ago, and fixed several minor problems that the Samsung Infuse 4G was having. The bad news is it was not the Gingerbread operating system upgrade that Samsung Infuse handset owners have been waiting for. And finally, the other good news is that the Gingerbread upgrade has been announced and will be hitting sometime this month, or early October at the latest (fingers crossed that no delays arise).
What is interesting about the minor software fix that was sent over the air to Samsung Infuse 4G Android handsets is that neither Samsung nor AT&T had been very specific about what this “minor update” and software fix was exactly covering. Sometimes, in advance of a large upgrade like an operating system update, minor fixes or smaller software additions must be made to lay the groundwork for the larger software enhancement. And in that case, the news of the upcoming Gingerbread update after this undescribed minor software addition makes total sense.
The Samsung Infuse 4G arrived on the AT&T 4G mobile broadband network around May of this year sporting the largest screen to grace of 4G handset. At 4.5 inches and 480 x 800 pixel resolution, the capacitive touchscreen with light and proximity sensors has support for 16 million colors. At an average size for all smartphones, the Samsung Infuse 4G measures 5.20 x 2.80 x 0.35 inches (132 x 71 x 9 mm), and weighs only 4.9 ounces. That 0.35 inch thickness makes the Infuse one of the thinnest 4G handsets to date. Buy the Samsung Infuse 4G starting at $99.99 and get a free $15 Amazon Credit.
