Samsung has just announced four new smartphone releases, as it attempts to make its Galaxy line a competitor in both the high end and the low end mobile markets. The South Korea based electronics giant is all set for releasing the Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy W, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro, which will also establish its new strategy for brand naming. All of the above mentioned devices are said to run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread; however their exteriors will be designed in a unique fashion.
The Galaxy W will be powered by a 1.4 GHz processor and will feature a 3.7 inch touchscreen which is expected to take advantage of the company’s Music and Gaming Hubs. The Galaxy M Pro is supposed to have a less powerful CPU; however it will offer a full size QWERTY keyboard in order to attract customers focused on texting, social networking and creating documents.
According to reports, the Galaxy Y and Y Pro will just be lower priced alternatives for the M and W. The Y will offer a touchscreen; however it will be less powerful than the Galaxy W which is priced much higher, whereas the Y Pro will have a weaker processor than the one on the M but it will feature QWERTY keyboard as in the M.
The new naming convention from Samsung uses the word Galaxy to categorize the company’s different devices into five different groups; S, Super Smart, W, Wonder, R, Redefined/Royal, M, Magical and Y, Young. From these, the M and Y range of smartphones will target those users who look for a cheaper smartphone, whereas the R, S, W devices will be the high end offerings from the company.
This rollout of the new Galaxy phones from Samsung has come after the company has enjoyed great success with the Galaxy S II smartphone and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Samsung also announced last month that it has sold more than 500 million units of the S II and it expects that the figure will cross 10 million by the end of the year, which proves that it is an authentic competitor in the high end smartphone market.
However, in order to establish itself with a high share in the smartphone market, it will also have to cater to the low end phone market. Thus the new naming convention where the Galaxy brand takes over might help the company as the consumers will associate even the cheaper phones with the positive perception that they have of the S II.
