The Samsung Galaxy S III may still be one of the more popular handsets in the smartphone competition today but another Samsung handset is making waves in the market in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the Korean electronics giant’s second generation phablet. Looking back to the time when the Samsung Galaxy Note II was unveiled back in August, Samsung Mobile division head JK Shin predicted that sales number of the phablet could hit the 20 million mark – double that of what its predecessor managed to achieve.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon is on sale now starting at $199.99.

JK Shin was quick to point out however that this is more of a long-term goal but after it was reported that the ACTUAL sales figures of the Samsung Galaxy Note II already hit the 5 million mark in just a little over a month of being in the shelves, there is a big chance that JK Shin’s prediction isn’t very far off the mark. And with the holiday season just around the corner, it is already a foregone conclusion that sales of the second generation Samsung phablet would pick up even more.

In addition to that, the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II has finally made its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider so that could possibly add more to the sales figures of the device. This is no longer surprising at all given the impressive specs sheet and even more impressive resume that the Samsung Galaxy Note II brings to the table. But what is more interesting is the fact that in just a coule of hours after Verizon announced the availability of its variant of the phablet, Samsung in turn released the kernel source code of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II.

This might not mean much to the average smartphone user but the hardworking fellows of the developer communities will definitely have a grand time in dissecting and analyzing the source code of the device. And with this in play, these same power users can hackers can already start cooking better and faster custom ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy Note II which we can expect to drop like manna from the heavens in the next couple of days or weeks.

As for the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the device already runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this is powered by the handset’s Exynos 4412 Quad chipset. This SoC brings into play a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz working in conjunction with a whopping 2GB of RAM in generating the required computing muscle of the phablet. The device can be had in a 16GB, 32GB and a 64GB version in terms of storage space but a user can make use of the handset’s microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. The massive screen real estate of the Samsung Galaxy Note II still remains as its standout feature with its 5.5-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP video call and self-portrait camera.

You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon now starting at $199.99.
