The Galaxy SII has been released overseas and many here in the United States have been waiting for what seems like forever to get their hands on one here.  Announced today, the Samsung Hercules was released and it appears that it is the US version of the Samsung Galaxy SII, released by T-Mobile.  The Hercules will be the first Smartphone from T-Mobile that has support for the HSPA+ 42Mbps connections.  That is in addition to the already fantastic features that you can find on the Galaxy SII.

The Hercules doesn’t have each and every one of the features that the Galaxy has, some of them are better.  Starting with the “larger than the industry standard” 4.5-inch screen the Hercules is bound to catch the eyes of customers from a distance.  The phone will have a dual-core processor, but it will not be one that is made by Samsung.  This dual-core, 1.2 GHz processor is coming from Qualcomm.  Another thing that you will notice as soon as you look at the phone is that the edges are a bit more rounded adding to how comfortable feels of the phone in your hand.

The new Hercules will also come with a brand spanking new version of Netflix pre-installed and should look pretty nice on the huge 4.5-inch screen.  Following the overwhelming popularity of the Samsung Galaxy SII might not be a very easy thing to do for Samsung.  Samsung sold over 5 million Galaxy SII’s during the same amount of time it took the company to sell 3 million of the original Galaxy.

Other features on the Samsung Hercules include the 8MP camera in the back and 16GB of internal storage.  As far as pricing goes on this handset, Samsung has not confirmed one thing or the other at this point.  The inside of the phone will be run by the Android operating system, called Gingerbread version 2.3.  The interface on the Smartphone will be one from Samsung according to the reports from today.  You might be asking why you would buy a new phone from T-Mobile if the company ends up merged with AT&T, but some online have said this phone is a good buy, because the phone actually works with either carrier.  There wasn’t a release date given but Samsung has commented that the new phone will be released in the United States some time in August.

  1. “Big brother” would have been a more appropriate title. Also, the suspected release date for this phone is in late September; the Verizon Galaxy S II is projected for August.
