The Galaxy series of smartphones, tablets and now watches has been very successful for Samsung and there is no reason to believe that the company would not take it a step further and bring a wearable computer that you use with your eyes. Google might have been the first company to come up with a wearable computer pair of glasses, but Samsung was not going to let them take all of the glory in that space, according to a new report. The report suggests that Samsung will have the new glasses ready to ship right along side of the Galaxy S5.
The Galaxy S5 is expected to launch next year, just one year after the super popular Galaxy S4 that launched this year to much fanfare. According to one analyst, the upcoming device will fit right into the same category as other augmented reality and wearable computer devices. Even the name of the device, “Gear Glass” makes complete sense when you step back and take a look at the Galaxy series of devices that Samsung has dominated the market with. The latest being the Galaxy Gear smartwatch that can be paired up with any newer Galaxy device.
As with any newer device, the name could change once it shows up on the market, but for now it will be used as a method of pointing out what product you are talking about. The same analyst says that consumers that are seriously thinking about picking up the Gear Glass might be able to do so around April or May of next year. That timeline is right around the time that many can expect to see the new Galaxy smartphone from Samsung. With the smartwatch being introduced with the Galaxy Note 3 this month, it could be possible that Samsung could release a packaged deal in the future.
Google Glass is expected to arrive around the same time in 2014, or a couple months later, so it would appear that Samsung is going to beat the search giant to the punch, which is normal. As of right now, besides the name of the device, the other specs are not known so it will be hard to say that Samsung will offer a better product that Google knowing what the Google Glass is all about right now.
