As of the moment, the HTC One X is still one of the best handsets currently available in the smartphone market today and is up there at the top of the smartphone leader boards with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Not only that, the handset holds the distinction of being the world’s first smartphone to pack a quad-core processor under the hood which dates back to late last year when it was still known as the HTC Edge. It had to go through several name changes though before it was christened as the HTC One X+ when the handset was unveiled at Mobile World Congress back in February.
The HTC One X is currently the flagship device of the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer and was recently confirmed to get the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system, this October. However, the handset’s days of being the top-tier HTC handset and could very well be already on its way out because its manufacturer has already announced its successor in the form of the HTC One X+.
We’ve already heard about the existence of the HTC One X+ in the last couple of weeks through various leaks and rumors but today, all these stop because the handset has already reached official status with its announcement. This soon-to-be HTC flagship handset is based on the platform of the HTC One X but comes with an upgraded hardware DNA and a new colorway.
Design-wise, the HTC One X+ is a veritable twin to its predecessor except for the new colorway and the red design accents. It packs the same measurements with its dimensions of 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm but is a bit heavier at 135 grams compared to the HTC One X’s 130 grams. As expected, the new HTC handset exhibits the same solid build quality found in the original HTC One X 4G LTE handset.
Under the hood, the HTC One X+ boasts of an upgraded hardware DNA and is expected to ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean once it hits the shelves. The operation of the handset is powered by its NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 chipset which brings quad-core capabilities to the device via its upgraded quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. The handset’s RAM remained unchanged at a full gigabyte though, but it will be made available in a 64GB version in terms of storage space. Display-wise, the HTC One X+ sports the same 4.7-inch Super LCD2 panel found in its predecessor with the same HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Its shooting department got a bump up though – the rear shooter is still at 8MP but its front-facing snapper now packs a sensor resolution of 1.6MP. Both shooters are capable of video capture though at 1080p and 720p, respectively.
