A couple of weeks back, it was reported that the Exynos chipset used in several high-end Samsung devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Samsung Galaxy S III has a security flaw that could allow a potentially malicious app to do some nasty stuff on the said devices. Samsung however for its part confirmed that is aware of and in control of the situation and is already working on a software update that will get this security flaw on the Exynos chipset fixed.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $99.99.

To ensure that this issue plaguing the Exynos chipset on high-end Samsung devices is not blown out of proportion, Samsung started the rollout of the security update a couple of weeks back and the first recipient of the said update is the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch released by Sprint in US shores. During the rollout, there was not much details about the miniscule update but it did indicate that it is for additional security of the handset. This time around, it is the turn of the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to get the said update which will alleviate the fears and give peace of mind to the numerous users of the Big Red variant of the phablet.

As of the moment, this little update which weighs in at only 7.8MB is already hitting the airwaves via OTA so a notification should come up on your Samsung Galaxy Note II once the update is already available for download. Should you have no patience for waiting for that notification, you also have the option to manually check for the update every once in a while for that matter.

The changelog of the said update indicates that it is an “Android Security Patch added for additional security” but it looks like it brings more than that to the second generation Samsung phablet. Apparently, the same update will crank up the software version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to version I605VRALL4 which will patch the Exynos exploit that enables users to unlock the bootloader of the phablet and root the device.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the handset reached official status when it was unveiled during the latter parts of August last year but it waited until Q4 before it finally made its debut in the shelves of Verizon. The phablet shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its operating system and this is powered by the handset’s Exynos 4412 chipset which brings into play a quad-core 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a whopping 2GB of RAM. The storage space of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II is pegged at 16GB but this can still be expanded using the handset’s dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion. As for its display, the phablet boasts of a massive 5.5-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and 1.9MP snapper.

You can purchase the Galaxy Note II for Verizon at a discounted price tag now starting at $99.99.
