If you happen to have Sprint for your wireless provider of choice and rock the Now Network’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S III, chances are you’ll get a notification soon enough that another update has landed on your device. Looking back, the Now Network has recently rolled out an update to the Samsung Galaxy S III earlier this month which came with a couple of small fixes with it. That particular update bumped up the software version of the Samsung flagship device to version L710VPMA6.
Today, another update is headed to the Samsung Galaxy S III and this one will crank up the software version of the handset to L710VPMB1. Looking at these builds, you’ll notice that they are very close to each other. If fact, these two updates are almost the same except for the fact that this most recent update comes with the goodies and treats that came with the earlier update AND another addition: 3rd party software licensing.
According to Sprint, this new update is “this is a new release of L710VPBMA6, but also includes additional 3rd party software licenses” and will land on your Samsung Galaxy S III handset even if you have already applied the previous update to your device. For those wondering what the changelog of this update looks like, the enhancements and fixes that it brings to the Samsung Galaxy S III are as follows:
- Voicemail application update
- SMS 3-digit support
- Calendar sync issues
- 3rd party software licensing
We are not sure though as to why Sprint decided to rehash the previous update and just add 3rd party software licensing into the latest update. I mean, the Now Network could have simply rolled out this feature on its own, correct? But that is what Sprint did and we just have to live with it, I guess. At least, those who neglected to apply the previous update on their handsets now have the chance to get access to the goodies and treats it came with and have the bonus 3rd party software licensing feature as well.
The update as always is being rolled out via OTA so you can wait for the notification to show up OR you can also do a manual check to get the update process rolling.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S III, the circuitry of the handset is built around its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which brings to the handset a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a staggering 2GB of RAM. The handset has 16GB of onboard storage but this can easily be expanded by using the device’s dedicated microSD card slot. Its display on the other hand is a 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
