If you happen to have Sprint for your wireless provider and have the carrier’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the second generation phablet from the Korean electronics giant, you might want to be on the lookout for a notification that an update has landed on your massive device. As it stands, Sprint is now in the process of giving the Samsung Galaxy Note II some software update love as it confirmed that a small OTA update is now being rolled out to the massive handset.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.
This much was confirmed when the announcement was made by the carrier on its community site where it confirmed that an update that will crank up the build of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to L900VPAMC2 is now rolling out to the handset. The rollout by the way is done via the usual OTA manner so either you wait for that little notification to come up on your handset as mentioned earlier OR you get ahead of things and start the update process by doing a manual check for the update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates. This update is being done in stages so if your search doesn’t turn up anything tangible, relax – the update will land on your Samsung Galaxy Note II sooner or later.
As mentioned earlier, this is just a small maintenance update and only brings a couple of fixes to the Samsung Galaxy Note II which are:
- Waking a device with the home key incorrectly brings up the Recently Use applications screen
- Home Screen security updates
Not much of an update right? But at least, with this recent update, you wouldn’t have to deal with seeing recently opened apps on your display when you turn the Samsung Galaxy Note II on with its home button. And besides, like we always say, any update is a welcome update so long as it brings improvements to the performance of the handset, yes?
For those who want to know more about the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the second generation Samsung phablet reached official status when it was unveiled back in Q3 of last year but only managed to become available in the shelves of the Now Network in the last quarter of last year.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Note II runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its operating system and this draws power from the Exynos 4412 Quad chipset of the handset. This SoC in turn brings into play a quad-core 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor along with a whopping 2GB of RAM which ensure the speed and smoothness of the phablet’s performance. The Samsung Galaxy Note II was released in a 16GB version in terms of storage capacity but this can still be expanded using the handset’s microSD card slot. Its display is its main selling point which happens to be a massive 5.5-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department mimics that of the Samsung Galaxy S III with its rear 8MP shooter and front 1.9MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
You can purchase the Galaxy Note II at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
