If you happen to have AT&T for your wireless provider of choice and rock a Motorola Atrix 2 from the carrier, we have some great news for you. Your months of waiting for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to finally hit your handset is about to come to a screeching end. This development came in play after it was confirmed that the manufacturer is already in the process of conducting an ICS soak test for the handset.
The news broke out after members of the Motorola Feedback Network got email invites from Motorola asking them to participate in the Ice Cream Sandwich update soak test for the Motorola Atrix 2. For the uninitiated, these soak tests are Motorola’s way of ensuring the viability of a certain software update before it gets rolled out. In essence, the software update is initially rolled out to a small number of users and these users will send feedback regarding the update back to the manufacturer. This way, Motorola sort of has an eagle eye view on things and can easily pull the plug on the update if things go awry since only a small number of people got it in the first place.
With this soak test for the ICS update for the Motorola Atrix 2 already happening as we speak, we expect the official ICS rollout to the handset to happen in a couple of days if ever Motorola doesn’t run into any issues. We’re not entirely sure as to what is happening with the soak test but seeing that Motorola has already listed the software update in its website means everything is going according to plan. With this, the manufacturer also listed the goodies and treats that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be bringing to the Motorola Atrix 2 4G and these include a new user interface, an enhanced keyboard, improved notifications, a better Camera application and even the capability to take screenshots.
Not only that, we also expect the Ice Cream Sandwich update to bring a bevy of bug fixes and security patches that should take care of the issues users of the handset are encountering while the Motorola Atrix 2 was still in the Gingerbread generation. Sad to say, there is still no exact time frame as to when the ICS update will get rolled out to the Motorola Atrix 2 but we will let you now as soon as we hear more about the matter.
As for the Motorola Atrix 2, the handset was announced and released by AT&T back in October of last year. The device packs a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset under the hood which gives it a dual-core 1.2 GHz Arm Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset comes up to 8GB with the option for memory expansion using the microSD slot of the handset. Its display on the other hand is a 4.3-inch TFT panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a secondary front-facing camera for video calls and self-portraits.
