Though Sprint is very busy with the announcement of the addition of the HTC EVO 4G LTE to its lineup of Android-powered smartphones, the wireless provider still managed to come out with some software update love for one of its handset. The software update love is headed to the Samsung Conquer 4G, a handset that packs support for Sprint WiMAX so subscribers of the carrier who rock this handset for their mobile weapon choice should be on the lookout for this software update. Users of the handset will be surprised though with this update because instead of adding new features to the Samsung Conquer 4G, what it does is it takes away mostly unwanted stuff residing on the handset.
This software update is being pushed to the Samsung Conquer 4G through the usual OTA means so a notification is supposed to come up on your handset once the update is already available to be downloaded and installed on your device and will prompt the user to install the update now or install it later. if the notification fails to show up on your handset of it the “Install later” option was selected, you can always check for the update manually by hitting Settings > About phone > System updates. Additionally, the software update will be staggered in its rollout and Sprint has already projected that all Samsung Conquer 4G handsets will get the update, which by the way takes approximately 5 minutes to download and install, within 10 days for that matter.
This software update with software version FC17 comes with a security fix and is the first component of the said update. Though the changelog of the update hasn’t been made available yet, we are willing to bet the farm that this security fix will remove the pesky CarrierIQ analytics software off of the Samsung Conquer 4G. See what we mean by what this update removes? But wait, there’s more! There are still some stuff that needs removing and once this update is fully applied to the Samsung Conquer 4G, the handset will lose its access to not one, not two, but eight live wallpapers previously installed on the handset.
The live wallpapers that you need to say goodbye to once you take advantage of the FC17 software update are Waveform, Water, Spectrum, Nexus, Maps, and Smoke. Despite this, the user still has the option to use a different wallpaper found in the Gallery or make use of the default wallpaper that is added by default after the update is completely installed. We find it odd and we are somewhat curious with the decision of both Sprint and Samsung to get rid of the live wallpapers mentioned above and what pushed them to do so. But if you happen to really not care whether CarrierIQ is spying on you and what you do with your smartphone and would rather have nice-looking live wallpapers instead, then we suggest that you think things over carefully if you really want to go ahead and install the update on your device.
