The Samsung Galaxy S4 is already one of the runaway hits of 2013. Following in the super successful steps of the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Galaxy S4 sold more than 10 million units in less than its first month of global availability, a sales record for Samsung. The handset consistently ranks as the number one or number two best-selling smartphone on the planet weekend and week out, and recently the mobile marketplace rumor mill cranked out a little potential news concerning the record-breaking Galaxy S4 and Verizon.
If you are acquainted with the Blogosphere, Twitter and the notorious smartphone tipsters that seem to be able to get their hands on company-specific information, you may have heard of the name @evleaks. The well-known info leaker has in the past been able to consistently beat smartphone manufacturers and wireless carriers to the punch by delivering substantial information on upcoming releases and launches. This is the case once again, as @evleaks recently tweeted about a custom edition Galaxy S4 smartphone headed to Verizon in the near future.
The limited edition version will purportedly offer customized back plates and wallpapers, and the information was tweeted on Monday, June 17. Also accompanying the tweet was an image of what looks like an advertisement from Big Red showing the different back plates for the limited edition Galaxy S4, and claiming they have been created by high-end toy manufacturer Kidrobot. The advertising goes on to say that Galaxy S4 users will also be able to design customized and personalized wallpapers for the powerful Android handset.
And smartphone dedicated website Phone Arena seems to back up the rumor. They stated that the customized back plates will be exclusive to the limited-edition Verizon Galaxy S4, and cannot be obtained separately. This leads us to believe that possibly the new Galaxy S4 for Verizon may be in a different form factor, and that the back plates will not fit previous versions. Of course, all this is conjecture at this point, with Verizon having made no mention thus far.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been a smash hit due to its wafer-thin and light form factor, as well as special eyeball recognition and hands-free navigation technologies. With a simple wave of your hand you can answer an incoming call on your Galaxy S4, and while watching videos if your vision moves from the screen, your movie or video automatically pauses. It picks up right where it left off when you return your gaze to your handset, and the phone also offers a full HD 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution and large 5.0 inch screen. A high-end 13.0 megapixel camera is on board, and the phone is powered by a powerful 1.9 GHz quad core central processor, with a microSD slot and 2.0 GB of RAM also on board. The phone is available in both 16 GB and 32 GB models.
