The HTC Evo 4G Android smartphone arrived on the Sprint wireless network on June 2 of this year in the United States. At that time the handset had to run on the Sprint 3G network, as they still had not finished building the infrastructure which would deliver 4G LTE connectivity to the US. However, that virginal 4G LTE network in the United States went live July 15, and the HTC Evo 4G smartphone was one of the first handsets that graced the system which Sprint says will be up to 10 times faster than their 3G network.

The HTC Evo 4G is on sale now starting at 79.99.

Just recently the Evo 4G LTE handset received a software upgrade to version 4.1 of the HTC Sense user interface (UI) and Android overlay. The new UI allows the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system version 4.0.4 to run on the Evo 4G LTE, and also provides minor bug fixes, while also making for a smoother user experience overall. But what Android smartphone shoppers in the United States should really be happy about is the vast expansion Sprint just recently announced, naming over 100 new markets in the US that would receive their 4G LTE platform in the coming months.

The HTC Evo 4G smartphone has been a flagship for that Sprint 4G LTE system in the United States, and some of the major Metropolitan areas which will be speeding along with the new Sprint network soon are Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, Miami, Nashville, Indianapolis and Charlotte. Delivering ICS out-of-the-box along with the full range Beats Audio sound package, as well as a Stereo FM radio with RDS display and large high-resolution screen, the HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone also delivers a built-in kickstand which allows for hands-free viewing of videos and movies.

Measuring 5.31 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches (134.8 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm) and weighing 4.73 ounces (134 g), the handset is slim when compared to other 4G LTE smartphones. The 4.70 inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display renders visuals in over 16 million different colors, and offers a high-end pixel density of 312 pixels per inch for an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Corning Gorilla Glass offers a layer of scratch protection and glare reduction to the display, and standard multitouch capacitive gestures are used to navigate the device.

The handset uses a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package to process your requests, and it is centered around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. That CPU is further enhanced by an Adreno 225 GPU that handles all of your graphics requests, allowing the central processor to focus on other operations. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone comes equipped with 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 16 GB of built-in storage, with a microSD slot provided for storage expansion. A rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides simultaneous HD video and image recording, and captures video at 1,080 P HD resolution. A 1.3 megapixel chat cam faces the user, and popular online destinations YouTube and Picasa are pre-installed.

Buy the HTC Evo 4G LTE now starting at 79.99.
