Back in the day when the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update hasn’t landed on any carrier-branded smartphone in US shores, it was already rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G from Sprint would be the first Android-powered smartphone in our side of the world to get a taste of the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system. The rumors surfaced when reports showed up claiming that Sprint is already in the final stages of rigorously testing the ICS update for its version of the venerable Samsung flagship handset.

Fast-forward to today, we know now that that rumor didn’t pan out because it was an AT&T handset that got first dibs on Ice Cream Sandwich in the form of the HTC Vivid 4G. in fact, it was heavily reported a couple of months back that users of the handset from the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer were already able to download the ICS update for the device by utilizing a dialer trick even before AT&T officially rolled out the update.
In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G from Sprint, the handset getting upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore given the fact that several leaked builds of ICS for the handset have already surfaced in the past. The only thing missing in the equation was the official announcement from the wireless provider that the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G indeed is getting the jump to ICS. Today, we got the official announcement from Sprint about that and the announcement was made in the community forums of the wireless provider.
Sad to say, the only thing that mattered in the announcement is the confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G will get an official Ice Cream Sandwich update. We already knew that all along and it would have been a whole lot better if the carrier at least gave the users of the handset a specific time frame as to when they can expect the rollout to happen. Sadly, there was none with only the confirmation that the wireless provider will start rolling out ICS to the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G this 2012.
Given the impressive specs of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G, it is already expected that the handset will get ICS. Come to think of it, the handset has a Samsung Exynos chipset in its internals with a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM ensuring the smooth performance of the handset. In addition to that is the generous 16GB of internal storage packed by the device which also happens to be expandable up to 32GB. The best attribute however of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G is its glorious 4.52-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display with its 480 x 800 resolution along with its equally-impressive camera department composed of a 2MP webcam out front and a rear 8MP autofocus camera capable of recording 1080p clips at 30 frames per second.
