The Sprint Galaxy S III runs on the speedy new 4G LTE network that Sprint launched a little over a month ago, and is offered in both 16 GB and 32 GB versions. The 16 GB model was recently spotted at the annual year end Amazon Wireless sale, where it boasts the almost free retail price of $0.01 on contract. That handset delivers the Samsung TouchWiz UX UI Android overlay which is integrated with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Slim and light for a phone with such a large screen, the Sprint Galaxy S III also offers simultaneous HD video and image capture.
Measuring 0.34 inches (136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm) in thickness, the handset weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g). Slim and light for a handset with a 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen, the Sprint Galaxy S III display is protected against everyday wear and tear with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Pixel density runs high at 306 pixels per inch, as does screen resolution, at 720 x 1,280 pixels. More than 16 million colors can be found on that display, which accepts standard multitouch, capacitive gestures for navigation.
At 9.20 hours of talk time from a single charge of the handset’s 2,100 mA battery, the Sprint Galaxy S III offers approximately 15% better battery performance than the typical 4G smartphone. That battery powers a built-in music player with custom and preset equalizers, popular applications Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed, and the handset supports NFC (Near Field Communications) applications out-of-the-box.
Also offered in a 32 GB model, the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III 4G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip package. A dual core 1.5 GHz CPU and Adreno 225 GPU are present, a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and storage expansion is accentuated by the built-in microSD slot, which accepts external memory cards up to 64 GB in size.
A 1.9 megapixel chat cam is built into the front of the Sprint Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone and allows you to place and receive video calls, as well as snap portrait snapshots. An 8.0 megapixel camcorder is integrated into the back of the handset, and that rear snapper comes equipped with an LED flash and back illuminated sensor (BSI) for low light operation. Video recording runs 1,080P HD resolution, with features like exposure compensation, ISO control, high dynamic range mode (HDR), a panorama mode and special effects package allowing for customization possibilities.
