iphone5sprintSmartphone shoppers considering an iPhone have reason to celebrate thanks to a recent bold move by Sprint. The 4G LTE network in the United States is Sprint’s first, and the Apple iPhone 5 is the first 4G LTE capable smartphone from that manufacturer. The device has been selling well for Sprint ever since it arrived on September 21 of last year, and Sprint just recently deeply discounted the best-selling handset when you switch your carrier.

That price tag is only available from select retail outlets, and drops the iPhone 5 to bargain bin levels. Sprint recently announced that they sold 1.5 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2013, and a substantial price reduction should certainly do nothing but improve on those numbers. Apple accomplishes a lot of firsts with the iPhone 5, as it is also the first smartphone from the Cupertno-based manufacturer with a 4.0 inch display. The handset is slimmer than the iPhone 4S, and contains a chip that is twice as powerful as that found on the iPhone 4S as well.

Measuring a super skinny 0.30 inches (7.6 mm), the iPhone 5 is also lighter than the typical 4G smartphone, weighing just 3.95 ounces (112 g). Apple has included a Safari HTML mobile web browser for Internet access, and the iPhone 5 also offers a built-in YouTube video player and music player that filters by album title, artist name and play lists. The display mentioned above is a 4.0 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD model which delivers built-in light and proximity sensors, and accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures for navigation. A scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass layer is also present.

Resolution runs high for the iPhone 5, at 640 x 1,136 pixels. The handset also offers more than 16 million individual colors when rendering visual displays, and those color pixels are delivered at the rate of 326 over each inch of display space. The slim handset contains a 1,440 mA battery, and a full charge of that cell offers 8.0 hours of talk time and 9.4 days of standby power. Apple has also drastically improved their camera combo from the 4S and other previous iPhones, with the rear facing camcorder on the iPhone 4S possessing an 8.0 megapixel sensor.

That rear snapper is also capable of simultaneously capturing HD images while recording high resolution video and presents a host of customization features, such as autofocus, touch to focus, digital image stabilization and a built-in LED flash. The f/2.4 lens is supported by an extra-wide panorama mode which can record up to 240 degrees in a single shot. That camera records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and a chat cam is found on the front of the handset. The A6 system chip is built around a dual core 1.3 GHz Apple Swift processor, and the handset delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory. The iPhone 5 is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB models.
