As of the moment, the latest version of the Android mobile operating system to be released by Google is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which was unveiled last week. This version of the OS hasn’t hit the airwaves yet and hasn’t landed on Google Developer devices yet so most of the handsets in the Android ecosystem at the moment are waiting to get a taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the predecessor of Android 4.2. Sad to say, the rollout of the Android 4.1 refresh to non-Google developer devices has been pretty slow and only a handful of devices have gotten the upgrade so far. However, what is more frustrating to see is that a handful of capable devices are still stuck in the Gingerbread generation waiting to get cranked up to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
But if you happen to have Sprint for your wireless provider of choice and are rocking the carrier’s LG Viper 4G LTE, your months of waiting for your handset to finally get a dessert of Ice Cream Sandwich is almost over. We say almost over because users of the LG Viper 4G LTE have started receiving the notification letting them know that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for their handset is scheduled to land sometime in the next two weeks. Again, a little more waiting is involved here but at least these users are already assured that one way or the other, their LG Viper 4G LTE handsets will get a taste of ICS in the next couple of days. Once the update finally lands, users will again get another notification advising them to install the update.
As is always the case, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is expected to bring the usual goodies and treats associated with the update such as Face Unlock, improvements to the camera, resizable widgets, Home Screen folders, improved stock Android browser, and an enhanced Lock Screen and user interface. Based on the notification being sent out, the version of the software that is expected to land on the LG Viper 4G LTE is ZVI.
As for the LG Viper 4G LTE, the handset reached official status when it was announced back in January but it only managed to make its debut in the shelves of Sprint a couple of months later in April. The smartphone measures 117 x 62 x 11.7 mm and it weighs in at 142 grams. Under the hood, the operation of the LG Viper 4G LTE is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor working in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the smartphone is a bit meager at only 4GB of onboard memory but this is not an issue at all because the LG Viper 4G LTE can handle memory expansion via its microSD card slot. In terms of its display, the LG Viper 4G LTE packs a 4.0-inch TFT panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its camera department boasts of a main 5MP shooter at its back panel and a VGA snapper at its front bezel.
