If you happen to have Sprint for your wireless provider of choice and are in the market for a handset that not only lets you enjoy the carrier’s nascent LTE network and but also at the same time have a QWERTY keyboard to make your messaging chores a whole lot easier, then we have great news for you. Spring has finally announced the addition of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE to its lineup of Android-powered devices and this handset has the two attributes mentioned above.
Looking back, rumors about the handset have already surfaced in the past but there has been neither confirmation nor denial from Sprint about the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. However, at the earlier second quarter earnings call of the carrier, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse himself confirmed that the handset is coming very soon. In addition to that, mug shots of the handset got leaked earlier so the only thing missing in the equation of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE is the announcement from Sprint itself.
The carrier obliged those waiting for the confirmation and has finally made the official announcement of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. For those wanting to know more about the handset, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard which sets it apart from the smartphone pack. Not only that, it will also pack support for the nascent LTE network of the wireless provider. And to top it all off, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE also has international roaming GSM capabilities so you don’t have to contend with buying a prepaid SIM every time you go out of the country.
Design and aesthetic wise, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE is reminiscent of the original Motorola Photon and looks solidly-built. The handset has measurements of 2.6 x 4.98 x 0.54 inches and it tips the scales at 6 ounces. Similar to other handsets in the stable of Motorola, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE also packs the excellent build quality Motorola is known for.
Under the hood, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE is expected to ship with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. Sad to say, there has been no confirmation as of yet as to how much RAM the handset will be packing but it would definitely be substantial, to say the least.
In terms of storage, the handset comes with 8GB of onboard storage but a user still has the option to have this expanded by making use of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE’s dedicated memory expansion slot. As for its display, the handset features a 4.3-inch TFT panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. As for its camera department, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE has a rear-facing 8MP shooter capable of capturing 1080p clips while its front-facing shooter will let you enjoy video calls and self portraits.
