The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G was a landmark handset in many ways. When it first arrived it was exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States. However, just a few months ago, that handset also arrived on the Sprint wireless system in the US. Boasting a large screen and extremely high resolution, powerful dual core processor, and the most built in, out-of-the-box data storage of any handset along with an incredibly thin smartphone design, the Galaxy Nexus 4G was an instant sales success story.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G is available for a reduced price now starting at $0.01.
Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, online retailing giant Amazon has discounted the purchase price of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone to around $19 on contract. That places the handset solidly in the bargain bin, even though nearly a year after its arrival in North America it still possesses a feature package that ranks it with the best performing phones in the entire mobile marketplace. The Sprint Galaxy Nexus also recently benefited from an upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system.
The Sprint Galaxy Nexus will have a network of at least 100 major Metropolitan markets offering the Sprint 4G LTE network by the end of 2012. The Galaxy Nexus 4G for Sprint is capable of simultaneous voice and data access, meaning that you can check your e-mail, surf the web or even compose a text message while in the middle of a voice call. The handset offers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box, and was one of the first smartphones to do so when it arrived in December of last year.
Data share wireless apps like Android Beam and retail payment processing wireless applications like Google Wallet are supported by NFC technology. The hardware package on board the Galaxy Nexus handset is built around a 1.2 GHz dual core central processor, and a graphics specific chip is also on board. The chip set selected for the handset is a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip suite, and it joins 32 GB of built-in, user accessible storage and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory in the handset’s hardware profile.
With up to 9.0 hours of talk time from a single charge, and popular YouTube and Picasa applications pre-installed, the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G also delivers a built-in music player. The 4.65 inch capacitive touchscreen is one of the largest on any mobile handset, with that Super AMOLED display delivering a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is also high at 316 pixels per inch, and the handset has a rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing chat cam. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and the chat cam can be used to place video calls.
