The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone is probably best known as the first handset to deliver the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) Android 4.0 operating system to a US handset. Google had announced the upcoming ICS OS in early 2011, and that particular operating system put an end to the fragmentation which was occurring across multiple Android operating systems and devices. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US was the exclusive home of the Galaxy Nexus 4G, and was a flagship device for that LTE network before arriving on the Sprint wireless system recently. Being offered on both Verizon and Sprint led to a wonderful price war that left the Sprint smartphone shopper victorious, as they recently lowered the retail price of the full-featured Galaxy Nexus 4G to bargain-basement levels on their brand-new, speedy 4G LTE network.
The Sprint Galaxy Nexus offers an extremely fast and powerful dual core processor, a large high-resolution display, high resolution video recording and the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage of any smartphone. And with the new Sprint 4G LTE system launched less than a month ago in the US, the Galaxy Nexus 4G is one of the first handsets to land on that speedy network. On the back of the handset is integrated a 5.0 megapixel camcorder which records video at a high resolution 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second. The Galaxy Nexus 4G was also one of the first handsets to deliver on the Near Field Communications (NFC) promise to deliver wireless technology support for applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam.
The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G also has backwards compatibility to Sprint’s 3G networks, and is jam-packed with Google integration. Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Picasa are pre-installed and ready for use out-of-the-box. And though the device has been marketed in the United States for going on nine months, the display is still one of the largest found on any smartphone. That 4.65 inch Super AMOLED screen offers an extremely high pixel density, at 316 pixels per inch. That gives the display an overall resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, also one of the highest found on any smartphone. Protected by an oleophobic scratch resistant coating, that display generates visuals in more than 16 million individual colors.
The handset is powered by a dual core 1.2 GHz CPU, and a separate GPU handles all graphics processing. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and 32 GB of RAM system memory are built-in. Around the front of the handset is a 1.3 megapixel chat cam which also provides video call support, and that rear camcorder mentioned earlier offers a panorama mode, a special effects package, autofocus, white balance and Geo tagging, and comes equipped with a built-in LED flash.
