The Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone was not first available on the Sprint network when it arrived in North America. Originally the handset hit the Verizon Wireless network exclusively in December of last year. That handset was a very important phone for many reasons, principally because it delivered the much-anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 Android operating system to the United States in a smartphone for the first time. It also offers the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage of any smartphone, and is still one of the slimmest, while also boasting one of the largest and highest resolution displays.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Sprint is available with free shipping, a $36 activation credit, and a reduced price at select authorized retailers now starting at 49.99.

Nearly one year after its delivery to the United States tech hungry public, the handset still performs at the high end of the mobile marketplace. Sprint debuted their brand-new 4G LTE system just a couple of months ago, and will have added over 100 major Metropolitan markets to that network by the end of the year. That 4G LTE system delivers simultaneous voice and data access, and online wireless retailer Wirefly recently dropped the price of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus to discount levels, at $49 on contract just in time for the holiday season.

NFC (Near Field Communications) connectivity is offered out-of-the-box, supporting applications like the retail payment processing Google Wallet and data share app Android Beam. The hardware package on board the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G is built around a 1.2 GHz dual core central processor, while a separate graphics specific GPU also arrives as part of a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip suite. As many as 9.0 hours of talk time is available from a single charge of the handset’s 1,850 mA battery, and popular applications YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed.

The 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display delivers extremely high pixel density at 316 pixels per inch, and this creates an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. 16 million separate colors are present in visual displays, and an oleophobic scratch-resistant layer protects the screen. Google is the cornerstone for Android devices, and it is present in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the form of Google Maps, Google Talk, Google Search and Gmail, with a front facing chat cam joining a rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder in the camera combo. That rear snapper can record video in 1,080P HD resolution, delivers an LED flash, auto focus and image stabilization features, and the front chat cam offers video call support and portrait snapshot capture.

You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Sprint and get a$36 activation fee and a reduced price tag now starting at 49.99.
