There was a time in the past when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the most popular handset in the smartphone market. This dates back to when the handset was released to coincide with the announcement of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was released to showcase to the world the fully stock, pure Vanilla flavored version of Ice Cream Sandwich, which back then was the latest version of the Android operating system. In fact, most of the smartphone-buying population considered the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as the best handset market because of this attribute despite the fact that some of its components were mediocre at best for a Google flagship device.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G is available starting at just one penny at select online retailers.

IN US shores, Verizon released its variant of the handset late last year and since then, the carrier sort of had exclusivity over the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. In fact, it was rumored back then that Verizon passed up on the Samsung Galaxy S II so it can have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus added on to its lineup of Android-powered devices.

This year, Sprint picked up on the popularity of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and released its variant of the handset. And being a developer Nexus device, the version of the handset is assured of getting first dibs on whatever software updates that Google will be releasing. Ultimately however, the decision as to when these updates will be rolled out to end users still solely depends on the approval of the wireless provider.

And with the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the subsequent update of the original version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system, users of the Sprint version of the handset have started asking about the Jelly Bean update and when can it be expected to land.

And since we are already talking about updates, the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is slated to get an OTA update but sad to say, this is not the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean refresh that users of the handset are expecting. As usual, this update will be rolled out via OTA so you either wait for the notification to come up on your device or mash that Check for update option to no end until it return something of consequence.

This update brings a couple of performance improvements and some bugfixes once applied to the handset and will upgrade the build number of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus to L700.FG01. The goodies that can be expected from this update include tweak to improve the handset’s received signal strength indicator (RSSI). In addition to that, it will give the handset support for Sprint TV while the Wi-Fi and LTE settings of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be defaulted to On.

No ETA has been announced by Sprint as of yet since the information came from a leaked image of an internal Sprint system but if all goes according to plan, this update can be expected to land on the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus tomorrow.  You can buy the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus starting at just one penny!
