In US shores, Verizon is still leading in terms of LTE coverage while AT&T runs a close second. For the longest time, Sprint has had its share of digital ink in terms of its LTE network, how all the infrastructure needed for it have already been deployed and the only thing needed is the green light for it to go online. Finally, the carrier has lit up the said network a couple of days back with 5 markets initially getting covered with the carrier’s LTE network.

In just a day after its official launch, more cities are now enjoying Sprint’s LTE coverage which is basically in line with the carrier’s aggressive LTE rollout. It looks like Sprint is trying to make up for lost time in the LTE department and from the initial 5 markets during launch day, the markets covered by the network have already tripled and now totals 15 all. The markets with Sprint LTE coverage as of the moment are as follows:

  • Atlanta, GA
  • Athens, GA
  • Calhoun, GA
  • Carrollton, GA
  • Newnan, GA
  • Rome, GA
  • Dallas, TX
  • Fort Worth, TX
  • Granbury-Hood County, TX
  • Houston, TX
  • Huntsville, TX
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Waco, TX
  • Kansas City, MO
  • St. Joseph, MO

With the carrier’s Network Vision Plan already in full swing, Sprint plans to have additional 4G LTE markets launched by the second half of 2012 with the announcements to come later this year. This aggressive rollout of its LTE network will continue through the end of 2013 wherein the carrier expects to have the build out of its 4G LTE network completed in US shores and covering approximately 250 million people in our side of the world.

At the rate Sprint is going, there is no doubt that there will come a time in the future that it will overtake AT&T in terms of LTE coverage and could go head to head against Verizon for that matter. And with the tripling of the markets covered by the carrier’s LTE network, users of the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will now have more areas to play in while taking sadvantage of the blazing-fast mobile internet speeds brought about by the network. And for those who don’t have an LTE-capable Sprint handset, you can get your hands on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus at Sprint-authorized retailers for only $79.99 with a new two-year service agreement with the wireless provider.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the handset has its circuitry built around a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 chipset which brings to the handset a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The internal storage of the handset comes up to 32 GB while its Contour Display is a 4.65-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution. The camera department of the handset is said to be its pain point with only a 5MP shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP video call camera out front. Both shooters are capable of video capture though at 1080p and 720p respectively to make up for the lower sensor resolution.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus starting at one penny.
