The Amazon Wireless store is home to a Top 100 best selling smartphones list which is updated frequently. It should come as no surprise that the globally popular Sprint Galaxy S III 16 GB smartphone is regularly found in the top 10 of this popular online best selling smartphones list, as Amazon is the largest online retail store in the world. And currently the blue and white color variants of the Sprint Galaxy S III 16 GB phone are firmly lodged in the number two and number three positions on that list, right behind Verizon’s 16 GB Galaxy S III, which is currently sitting in the top spot. The Galaxy S III has sold more than 50 million units worldwide, and continues to be a flagship device for Sprint.
Late last year Sprint launched their first ever 4G LTE system in the United States, and that network currently claims more than 58 major markets. And while the Sprint Galaxy S III has been a best seller and popular smartphone ever since its launch back in late June of last year, the handset probably has not suffered any thanks to the Amazon price drop it received recently. Amazon decided to slash the “on contract” price tag of the 16 GB Sprint Galaxy S III down to a nearly free $9.99, as the Galaxy S4 is preparing to launch next month in the US.
A slim handset (0.34 inches or 8.6 mm) and light in weight (4.70 ounces, 133 g), the Sprint Galaxy S III delivers the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and NFC wireless support out-of-the-box. The phone is capable of collecting snapshots in high definition while simultaneously recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. That feature is delivered by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the handset, and a front facing chat cam delivers video call options as well.
That rear camera offers excellent low light operability thanks to a back illuminated sensor (BSI) and built-in LED flash, and offers high-end smartphone camera features like ISO control, a CMOS image sensor, digital image stabilization and a self timer. Arguably the most used feature on a smartphone display, the Super AMOLED touchscreen on the Sprint Galaxy S III delivers 16 million colors at the rate of 306 pixels per inch. This gives the 4.80 inch display a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels overall, and that screen offers Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
The hardware package on board the Sprint Galaxy S III in both 16 and 32 GB versions offers excellent multitasking and simultaneous voice and data access thanks to its 2.0 GB of RAM system memory, and a microSD slot provides storage expansion. A Snapdragon dual core 1.5 GHz CPU powers the handset, which delivers custom and preset equalizers to its built-in music player, and offers Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa applications ready for use out-of-the-box.
