The Sprint Galaxy S III recently received inclusion into the Amazon Wireless store annual holiday sales event. The handset is offered in both 16 GB and 32 GB models, with the 16 GB version currently retailing for under $50 on contract from Amazon. The handset launched in the United States on June 21 of this year, and recently benefited from the creation of the first ever 4G LTE wireless network from Sprint. With more than 100 major Metropolitan areas in the United States to be included on that network by the end of the year, the Galaxy S III for Sprint has a speedy network to run on.
Another recent benefit to the Sprint Galaxy S III is the addition of the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system, which delivers a faster and smoother user interface, improved camera operations, an upgraded Google Now experience, and less clutter on the Android home screens. The handset measures 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches (136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm) and weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g), making it much thinner and lighter than the typical 4G smartphone with such a large display and hardware package.
The display in question runs 4.80 inches, and is protected against everyday wear and tear with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Both pixel density and overall screen resolution run high, at 306 pixels delivered every inch, for an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. That Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen supports multitouch gestures, is equipped with light and proximity sensors for auto screen brightness adjustment and battery conservation, and delivers more than 16 million separate colors.
The hardware package on board the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III 4G delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage and double the average RAM memory for a 4G smartphone. And while data storage is very generous at 16 or 32 GB, microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 64 GB in size are supported for data expansion. The chip set on board is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 package, including a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor and Adreno 225 GPU.
With a YouTube video player and a built-in music player that offers both customizable and preset equalizers, the Sprint Galaxy S III also delivers a camera combo with a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing chat cam. The 1.9 megapixel camera up front can be used for portrait snapshots and video calls, and the camcorder on the back of the handset provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. The camcorder also delivers a built-in LED flash and a back illuminated sensor (BSI) for low light operation, and offers autofocus, face and smile detection, a special effects package, and the ability to snatch still shots while simultaneously recording HD video.
