On Wednesday, October 17 smartphone manufacturer Samsung Mobile announced they would begin rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system update to their Galaxy S III smartphones in the United States. The Galaxy S III is currently running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and Samsung stated that the over the air update will be up to the discretion of individual carriers as to when it is delivered. Announcements have not yet been confirmed by Sprint or the other United States wireless carriers, but we expect an upcoming press release soon. Sprint has typically been quicker to access Android updates than some of the other carriers, but as yet Sprint has made no announcement.
The Samsung Galaxy S III is on sale now starting at 99.99.
Galaxy S III handsets in Europe have already been receiving the Jelly Bean 4.1 update, which delivers a new user interface and multimedia capabilities as well as the highly anticipated Google Now application. The new operating system is set to deliver a much faster and smoother user interface, improved keyboard and word prediction software. Notifications have been expanded, and voice search capabilities are supposedly much improved.
The Samsung Galaxy S III arrived on the Sprint wireless system on June 21 of this year in the US, but it wasn’t until three weeks after that that Sprint debuted a brand-new 4G LTE network. On July 15 Sprint launched their virginal 4G LTE system, and recently announced the addition of 100 major Metropolitan areas in the US by the end of the year. That handset delivers a powerful dual core processor and is one of the first handsets to offer a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory.
