Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III Launches July 1

The Galaxy S III 4G LTE smartphone launched on the AT&T network originally, and just this week arrived on the Sprint wireless system, retailing for $179 with a standard two-year contract at select retailers. That price is for the 16 GB model, and the Galaxy S III arrives as one of the first 4G LTE capable Android handsets on Sprint’s new 4G LTE network. The handset delivers Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, and the Samsung TouchWiz UX user interface Android overlay supports capacitive, multitouch gestures to navigate the device. Slim at only 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) and weighing only 4.70 ounces (133 g), the Sprint Galaxy S III delivers a fast processor, one of the largest high resolution screens in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, and HD video capture.

The GS III for Sprint is also one of the first handsets to deliver simultaneous HD image and video capture, and is one of a very few smartphones that deliver 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The large 4.80 and Super AMOLED display renders visuals in more than 16 million separate colors. That capacitive, multitouch screen delivers a pixel density of 306 pixels per inch, for an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. A layer of second generation Corning Gorilla Glass 2 overlays the screen, providing scratch resistance and glare reduction.

Talk time runs up to 9.20 hours off of a single charge of the 2,100 mA battery on board, and the handset is run by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon suite of microchips that includes a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU and graphics dedicated Adreno 225 chip. This particular model offers 16 GB of built-in storage, and there is word of a 32 GB model which will be offered as well at $249. The microSD slot on board the Sprint Galaxy S III also supports microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 64 GB.

The camcorder located on the back of the handset is 8.0 megapixels, comes equipped with an LED flash, and offers smile and face detection, geo-tagging, a CMOS image sensor, back illuminated sensor (BSI) and several other customizing features. that camcorder captures video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1080p HD) at 30 frames per second, and is joined in the camera combo by a front facing chat cam. Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter social media applications have been pre-installed, and the handset also delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box.  You can order the Sprint Galaxy S III starting at $179.
