The Galaxy S III smartphone has been a best seller for the wireless service providers that offer it, and the 16 GB version for Sprint recently received a substantial price drop. The Amazon Wireless store is one of the largest providers of smartphones online, and at that wireless portal the 16 GB Galaxy S III was recently spotted with a $0.01 on contract price tag. Also available in a 32 GB model, that price drop comes in advance of the upcoming Galaxy S IV release.
Samsung held a much-anticipated press release at the famed New York Radio City Music and Hall on March 14, and debuted the upcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone. Samsung is attempting a massive, global launch with their Galaxy S IV, with 327 operators across 155 countries launching the GS IV on April 26. The one penny price tag for the 16 GB Galaxy S III is the lowest retail price that handset has had in its existence.
Global sales of Galaxy S III models are currently at more than 50 million units, and that handset was designed in a slim and light format. Measuring 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), the handset weighs just 4.70 ounces (132 g). The display is large at 4.8 inches, and is protected against chipping and scratching with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, offering a full 306 pixels per inch and delivering more than 16 million colors.
Sprint recently released their new and first ever 4G LTE network in the United States, with more than 58 major markets currently and growing. The handset delivers roughly 15% better than average talk time, at 9.20 hours from a full battery charge. The dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor joins an Adreno 225 GPU in the handset’s hardware package, along with 2.0 GB of RAM memory. Both 16 and 32 GB models come equipped with a microSD slot for storage expansion.
That microSD slot supports cards up to 64 GB in size, and the Galaxy S III handset offers a music player with both customizable and preset equalizers. A YouTube video player has also been pre-installed, and popular applications Facebook, Picasa and Twitter are also on board. The Galaxy S III for Sprint is capable of 1,080P HD video recording, and can also simultaneously capture high definition snapshots while recording video. The Galaxy S III also delivers a front facing chat cam with video call support, is NFC capable out-of-the-box, and can operate as a central Wi-Fi hub for multiple wireless devices.
