Back in the day when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was still the latest version of the Google mobile operating system, manufacturers were already scampering to get the high-end handsets in their respective stables upgraded to ICS. Sad to say, this is only applicable to the unlocked versions of these handsets while those carrier-branded versions that found their way to US shelves had to wait a little longer for the update to become available for them. In the case of Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer Samsung, it announced back then that the Samsung Galaxy S II, its flagship device last year, will be the first among its devices to get a tasty treat of ICS with a projected Q1 2012 rollout date. The manufacturer was able to keep its promise when it finally rolled out the ICS update to the handset back in February.
At that time, the Samsung Galaxy S II was one of the most popular handsets in the smartphone market and was in fact released in US shores by every major carrier in our side of the world with the exception of Verizon. For Sprint’s part, the carrier released the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch as its variant of the once venerable Samsung flagship device. The smartphone became one of the bestselling devices of Sprint and was at one time rumored to be the first carrier-branded device released in US shores to get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Back then, Sprint was reported to be in the final stages of testing the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch which further strengthened the speculations. Sad to say, this is not to happen because the HTC Vivid 4G from AT&T got the distinction of being the first handset in US shores to get the Android 4.0 refresh when users of the handset were able to take advantage of a dialer trick to force the smartphone in downloading the official Ice Cream Sandwich update from AT&T.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch still went on to get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but users are reporting that they are experiencing bugs on the handset after the update. Sprint for its part however has announced that a bug fix update is scheduled to be rolled out in stages in the coming days.
The bugfix update is expected to crank up the software version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch to S:D710.10S.FH13 (MR 4) and will take care of the battery life issues on the handset. No ETA has been given by the carrier as to when the update will hit the airwaves but if you are rocking a Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch for your mobile weapon of choice, you might want to be on the lookout for that notification or check for the update manually every once in a while. The FH13 update has caused my phone to randomly shut off numerous times today, and the battery is acting up. It suddenly said 20% in less than 2 hours of coming off the charger. Then later, it said 0% after it had shut itself off and I plugged it in. Can you remove updates? The FH13 is making my phone unreliable.

Andrew,
That happened to me when I updated to the Ice Cream Software. I was ready to throw my phone out the window!! I took it to a Sprint Corporate store and they did a software reset and it’s been fine ever since. I refuse to update this new FH13 because I’m afraid it will happen again!!
