bbq10If you are on the Sprint network and have been waiting for the Blackberry Q10 handset, the wait is finally narrowed down to just one week.  Sprint has announced plans to release the Blackberry 10 powered Blackberry Q10 on the 30th of August.  The press release issued by the company said that on August the 30th, they will be releasing the new Blackberry Q10 with a price tag that reads just $199.  The price includes a new two-year contract with Sprint.  Pre-orders are not available with this device as Sprint says that all users will have a chance to pick up the new device from a local Sprint store, website or third party retailer.

The Blackberry Q10 showed up in the United States about three months ago and it was at that time that Sprint said it would not be releasing the phone right away.  AT&T was the first company to launch the smartphone back in June with Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile to follow shortly after that.  Blackberry launched the Q10 and the Z10 this year with hopes of bringing market share and brand awareness back to Blackberry after Android and iOS devices basically forced the company to rethink its future.

Android and iOS powered devices have taken the majority share of the market over the last five years and when Blackberry did not release a handset most of 2012, it was thought that the company would be sold or just disappear due to the competition.  The strange part of Sprint waiting so long is that the Blackberry Q10 could potentially be near the end of its life cycle.  In the smartphone world, devices are replaced more quickly these days than ever before and that makes some wonder why Sprint waited so long to offer the Q10 to customers.

The Blackberry Q10 was announced back in January of this year and features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.  The back side features the 8MP camera with a smaller, 2MP webcam on the front side that is perfect for video chatting, etc.  The touch screen display is an AMOLED model measuring 3.1-inches.  In a mobile world where bigger is better when it comes to displays, the 3.1-inch Blackberry Q10 is going to seem small, but those that are loyal to the brand will still gather for the purchase.
