You probably have heard of the incredible success achieved by all the global versions of Samsung’s Galaxy S II Android smartphones. Samsung is having a banner year, evidenced by the fact that they just recently passed Apple as the worldwide leader in global smartphone units shipped. The success of the Samsung Galaxy S II, both overseas and in the tech-crazed US, deserves much of the credit for the accomplishment, selling 10 million units its first five months of availability in Europe and Asia, and more than 30 million units worldwide. After its release in the US, handsets like the award-winning Galaxy S 2 Epic Touch 4G are guaranteeing a very Merry Christmas for Samsung shareholders.
Besting their litigious competitor Apple in sales is no small win for Samsung, and further proof of the success of the Epic Touch 4G is its recent award as the best new mobile 4G device of 2011. The 4G World Conference and Expo was held in Chicago, Illinois this year, and the Samsung Epic Touch 4G Android handset bested all other mobile devices to take first place in the coveted Best New Mobile Device category. The Sprint Epic Touch 4G is the first Galaxy S II version to hit the US, and offers one of the larger displays in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace. Sprint recently dropped the price of the handset to $79 at select Sprint authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation.
Delivering Android’s 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Epic Touch 4G offers a 4.52 inch Super AMOLED Plus display which delivers images and video in 16 million colors. That capacitive multitouch screen also offers 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and incorporates a light sensor for auto brightness adjustment. Average in size and weight for a 4G smartphone, the Epic Touch delivers above average run time from a single charge of the 1800 mAh, at 8.7 hours.

Samsung chose an Exynos chip set to power the phone, a dual core 1.2 GHz central processor and Mali 400MP graphics processing unit. 16 GB of built-in storage and 1.0 GB of RAM memory are also on board. For storage expansion, Samsung has added a microSD slot, and a microUSB slot is present for charging the handset. The camera combo on board is similar to that of the other Galaxy S II devices, with a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam and rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear device allows video capture at 1080P HD, and comes equipped with a video light and LED flash. Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter applications are pre-installed.
