The HTC Evo 4G LTE Android smartphone should not be confused with the HTC Evo 4G which was so popular when it arrived on the Sprint wireless network oh so long ago. The HTC Evo 4G LTE is still exclusive to Sprint, as past Evo handsets have been, and is no doubt the most powerful Evo iteration in the history of that line of mobile handsets. The Android handset delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box as one of the first handsets on the Sprint system to do so, and also delivers a large high-resolution screen, fast processor and Beats Audio package. Sprint recently reduced the retail price of the Evo 4G LTE to $129 on contract.
The display on board the Evo 4G LTE runs 4.70 inches, and pixel density runs 312 pixels per inch, giving the display an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Displays are reproduced in more than 16 million different colors to the Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen, and a protective layer of treatment overlays the display which meshes the HTC Sense UI v4.0 with ICS for navigating the handset. The phone is slim at 0.35 inches (8.9 mm), and light at 4.73 ounces (134 g). The two-tone red and black handset is designed with a foldout kickstand on the back to allow for hands-free video and movie viewing.
A single charge of the 2,000 mA battery on board the HTC Evo 4G handset provides approximately 7.50 hours of talk time. Ahe hardware package on board includes a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chip set complete with a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor and Adreno 225 GPU, which is on board to handle all graphics processing. The handset contains 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage and a microSD slot for storage expansion, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is installed.
HTC was the first smartphone manufacturer in the United States to provide a mobile handset with a camcorder that allows for simultaneous 1,080P HD video and image recording, while also recording in stereo sound. That feature is present here in the HTC Evo 4G LTE handset via the 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the device. Snapshots can be captured in just 0.7 seconds, and the F/2.0 lens allows 40% more light in, working with the LED flash to provide low light operation. That camcorder provides a host of customization features, and a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam rides up front. The multimedia package includes an FM Stereo radio with RDS, proprietary YouTube video player and Beats Audio sound package, and Near Field Communications (NFC) support is present out-of-the-box.
