Stable CyanogenMod 9 build now available for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

If you happen to rock a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for your mobile device of choice and want a custom ROM that gives you a slew of performance optimizations and customization options among others because you find the fully stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience that comes along with your handset, it would excite you to know that a stable CyanogenMod 9 build is now available for your handset.

You can currently purchase the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at a reduced price point at select retailers (the price cannot be advertised due to manufacturer restrictions).

For those not in the know, CM9 is developed from AOSP and is based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Arriving at this build of the CyanogenMod’s ninth iteration took its developers quite some time. According to the developers, when they set out in porting ICS over, they had to go through the process of rewriting the whole CyanogenMod ROM from scratch which was the main reason for the length of time taken before they came up with this stable build of the release. The folks from the CyanogenMod team however announced that this stable release will be the end of the line of evolution for the ICS branch and will now focus on the development of CyanogenMod 10 based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Be reminded however of the risks involved in doing so, such as voiding your warranty or worse, turning your beloved Samsung Galaxy Nexus into nothing more than an expensive paper weight.

However, if you don’t care much for warranties and the other risks involved when tinkering with your handset, you can flash this stable build of CyanogenMod 9 onto your Samsung Galaxy Nexus and start enjoying all the benefits that it brings to the table. With this custom ROM in play, you have the advantage of getting your handset upgraded to the latest Android version even if your handset manufacturer has no plans of releasing an official update for your device. If you however are of the faint of heart, you have to think twice before proceeding. Better yet, just enjoy the pure Vanilla-flavored version of Ice Cream Sandwich on your handset.
