There was a time when Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia was at the forefront of things in the smartphone market. This dates back to when its E-Series line of smartphones were very popular and the talk of the smartphone town. All this changed however when other big-name manufacturers such Apple, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and the like entered the smartphone scene and began flooding the market with their respective devices. This relegated Nokia to the back seat and had to be content with being mere spectator as the other manufacturers mentioned above had all the fun (and of course, the profits) in the market.

Nokia however plotted its return to prominence by entering into a strategic partnership with software giant Microsoft and starting to manufacturer handsets for the windows Phone platform. Its bid to reclaim lost glory was started with the release of the Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 followed by the launch of the Lumia 900 in April of last year. As of the moment, the current flagship device of the Finnish manufacturer for the Windows Phone platform is the Nokia Lumia 920 which is every bit as capable as the other high-end device in the platform.
Since starting the production of Windows Phone-powered handsets, Nokia has already stuck to manufacturing handsets made with a polycarbonate chassis and this is to be a trademark of Lumia handsets released to the market. However, word on the street is deviating from this tried and tested formula of polycarbonate devices in the work it is doing on the alleged successor of the Nokia Lumia 920.
According to those privy to what is happening in the background, Nokia is a working on a possible successor to the Nokia Lumia 920 and this upcoming handset is said to be made from aluminum. With this in play, the handset with codename Catwalk, will emerge thinner and lighter than the current flagship handset of the manufacturer. The choice of material allegedly was a result of Nokia wanting its next top-tier device to directly compete with the iPhone 5, hence the decision to use aluminum to be able to come up with a high-end device that is not only thinner but is also lighter. Nokia is yet to confirm nor deny these rumors but there is also a strong speculation that the Nokia handset codenamed catwalk will hit the shelves sometime later this year.
As for the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset is already running Windows Phone 8 for its operating system and this is powered by the handset’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset with a little help from the handset’s dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1GB of RAM. Storage space on the handset is pegged at a very generous 32GB while the Nokia Lumia 920’s display is a 4.5-inch IPS TFT panel with a 1280 x 768 resolution. Its camera department on the other hand is composed of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
