Enemies are meant to defeat each other but it is ironic that in that process they end up strengthening the enemy too. After the hot buzz on the launch of iPhone 5, the new voice in the tech-world is of Windows Phone 8. Nokia has been getting tremendous and thus questionable support from carriers as they go gaga over the Windows Phone 8. Carrier executives were described as ‘falling over themselves’ to express their support to the new legacy of the Windows Phone generation.

It is not just speculation or a corporate strategy but a quite well supported fact, AT&T’s Glen Laurie, who gets to test all the major devices to look for loopholes reported, “I am bullish on Windows 8…it’s hard to bet against a tablet that does what your PCs and desktop will do.” Verizon voiced their support through their business agreement with Nokia that the carrier would have more than one Windows Phone 8 devices.

Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 devices will strike the market this fall. Device makers Nokia, HTC, Samsung and Huawei have all decided on building Windows Phone 8 devices. T-Mobile which has already been carrying Windows Phone through their Nokia and HTC devices are quite jubilant over the launch of Windows Phone 8 devices later in this year. The carrier plans on being a launch partner for Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

Earlier I mentioned about the support being given by Verizon to the Windows Phone 8. Their support is the key for Microsoft. Verizon is the largest wireless company with around 93 million subscribers. Verizon was not very adamant on the Windows Phone devices as they were not sure how those devices would compete with the android and iPhone market but it seems that they have resolved their conflict. Another reason for the support is that Windows Phone 8 is not up-gradable, so the older Windows Phone software will become irrelevant after the release of Windows Phone 8.

So summing up, the carriers are interested in the Windows Phone 8 because they find it viable enough to compete with the android and iPhone consumer base. Majorly, the carriers want a third platform apart from android and iOS, as having another play would substantially contain costs thus giving a diplomatic turn to the market rather a monarchical one. It will be interesting to see the strategies carriers come up for the marketing of the Windows Phone 8.
